Birth experience processing and healing
Processing — meaning healing and transformation of the internal narrative regarding the birth experience, including its meaning and the language it holds in our lives.
Sessions held with the tools of B.O.T are profound and are intended to release traumas from previous births, as well as feelings of “something stuck” or “something not quite right.” They are also relevant in cases where a recent birth still occasionally captures our attention, perhaps pulls at us, or drains energy from us. These are energies that would be better directed toward current life challenges, rather than remaining occupied with what has already happened. Sometimes even women who have “closed that chapter,” including women in their sixties, receive insights about that birth and subsequently experience a sense of release, relief, renewed availability for life, increased energy and joy, and a feeling of strength and presence.
And why does this happen — that births stay with us? Why is it not simply possible to leave it behind?
As sometimes partners or well-meaning people around us might say… the thing is that birth has a quality (among many qualities) of reaching the center — there is in birth a sensitivity in which even small moments go directly to our essence, shake it, and remain with us.
B.O.T allows us to be in contact with these places in a gentle and compassionate way, while also enabling movement and change.
During birth, we may want to say something or do something but were unable to — we did not dare, or it was simply not appropriate in that moment with doctors, midwives, pressure, and exhaustion. At the time, it was the right decision, and yet afterward — the movement that did not happen (I once wrote about a woman who did not respond when a doctor gently opened her legs; she wanted to refuse but froze, and later experienced depression), the word that was not spoken, the movement that was not made — all of these remain in the body and heart, asking for release and recognition, and if not attended to, they may continue to call out within us.
Without a deep understanding of the processes occurring in birth, and without the qualities of accompaniment offered by B.O.T (and of course there are other wonderful approaches and practitioners as well), we may continue to be influenced by life movements that have not yet found expression.
B.O.T offers a uniquely fitting response to these moments in life — even if, and often especially when, births are already behind us.
I wish you find your next step toward untying the knot (if it is present for you now). And I say “next step” because you have already begun — for example, by arriving at this page.
The movement has already started.
